January Updates for Mrs. Pupino’s Class

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe that we are now in the 3rd term of fourth grade!  Report cards will be sent home this coming Friday. Today, I reminded the class that 1st term is a review of 3rd grade and a transition into new 4th grade material in every subject. Friday’s report card is a true reflection of the fourth grade curriculum that is in the most part new to students. I reiterated that effort is just as important as grades on their report card for every subject. We will continue to work on positive growth mindset!
In Math we started Unit 4, which focuses on multiplication. Please continue to work on multiplication facts each night at home!  In Science, the students have been working with Mrs. Leaver on rocks and minerals. Volcanoes and volcano slideshow/poster are due on Wednesday, January 31st. A reminder that they should reflect the volcano researched and are done at home. Presentations will take place in Mrs. Leaver’s classroom on January 31st and February 1st. Mrs. Leaver will send assigned dates/times home later this week.  In Social Studies we are finishing up our New Hampshire History Unit. They have been working hard on creating ABC NH Books. This week, we will learn about the three branches of government and how a bill becomes a law! Once the unit is complete, these books will be sent home.  In Reading, your child has conferenced with me to set a goal that is supported with a strategy. Please take a moment to ask your child what their goal/strategy is and what their favorite Daily 5 activity is! We also finished the One School book Wishtree this week! In Writing, we will begin informational writing this week!  The subject of wallabies will be used as a model, as we work on a classroom draft together. Next, students will select a subject they they are interested in. We will practice note taking, organizing important information and writing informational text that will be turned into a published book!
We are also working hard to keep everyone in our classroom healthy. If your family would like to donate Clorox wipes or Kleenex, we would appreciate it! We have been wiping down surfaces before, during and after school!
Have a happy and healthy week!
